Learning Conferences

The children are excited about sharing their learning progress with you at learning conference time. A reminder these will be held in your child's class from 2pm on Tuesday 25th August and Thursday 27th August. School will be finishing at 2pm both days.
To book your conference(s), go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the code; SVCSR There will be supervision available in the hall for children who can’t be collected until 3pm. Please contact Jacky in the office if you would like your child supervised during this time on either day.

Next week we have altered our learning programme to prepare the children for their learning conferences. Routines are slighlty different so this may reflect some changes in home learning next week also.

Sickness

There has been an incredible amount of colds, and viruses going around. This means we have many of the children away sick. Please if your child is not well, try to keep them at home as some of the bugs going around are taking a number of days for the children to get over. We are encouraging hand sanitiser and hand washing. We hope EVERYONE will be well again soon.

Calendar Art Journey

Our calendar art is making fantastic progress. The children are working hard and persisting to get a wonderful end result. We can’t wait until they are finished. Please see our write up in the Beckenham School newsletter for more information.

Parent Help

We would love some more parent help with our print making.  We really appreciate all the parent help we have been receiving it is great having you in the classroom.

Spellathon

The children did a wonderful job with their spellathon. Please, if your child hasn't brought their spelling card back yet, bring it in on Monday so we can get testing. Please bring the sponsorship and cards back as soon as possible as the first class to have them all back gets rewarded with morning tea.

Kia ora whanau,

Next week is our Cupcake Day - excitement is brewing in the Te Whanau Koru team! This is a fundraiser for the SPCA.  We will be selling our cupcakes to staff and the Year 5 and 6 students of the school. A notice has come out to parents this week asking for donations of pre-made, un-iced cupcakes.  Thank you so much to the parents who have returned their notices. We are also looking for donations of empty ice cream containers with lids.  If you have any of these available, please send along to school this week.

Learning Conferences
Learning conferences are being  held next week, Week 6.  School closes on both Tuesday and Thursday at 2.00 p.m.  If you need your child cared for at school until 3.00 p.m., please let Jacky in the office know by the end of this week.  The Learning Conferences are a wonderful opportunity for the children to share their learning and their learning goals.  Your child will be supported to lead their own conference. We would appreciate Learning Conferences  to be booked online by this Friday.  Please check your emails for the link.

Pride Assembly
We have Pride Assembly this week at 10.00 a.m. in the hall.  Everyone welcome.

Mutukaroa
Thank you so much for the resources that are being returned to school.  Please keep these coming in, so that our new children have activities to use.

Spell-athon
All children will be completing their Spell-athon testing this Friday.  The children will be bringing their completed cards home on Friday afternoon so that the sponsorship money can be collected and then returned to school.  No pressure, however, just a heads up...there is a prize for the first class to get all their sponsorship money back to school!

Friday afternoons:
We have noticed that many of our wee ones are becoming very keen to be involved in soccer, and we are suggesting that if children own soccer boots (or even if they don't - but perhaps send a spare pair of shoes along rather than risk masses of mud on footwear at hometime!), they can bring them along on Friday and we shall have a group of children playing soccer on the grass outside Rooms 1 - 4, at Friday Funday time after lunch.

Kind regards,
Amanda, Andrea, Jo, Cath, Rowe and Gail

Koru 12 cupcake posters

Yesterday we decided to make posters to put in the year 5 & 6 classes advertising our cupcake fundraiser. We thought they needed to tell the children what we were doing, and convince them
to come and buy one. We also decided that the posters needed words and pictures. We planned the words they might have and the pictures.

Today we made the posters with a buddy. We had to talk to our buddy and make decisions together. Sometimes it was tricky to keep cutting and gluing but we stuck at it!

Christchurch City Library Visit
We had a visit from the Christchurch City Library Outreach representative this afternoon and he read us a selection of favourites from the library. What a fun afternoon activity!

Learning Conferences
We have learning conferences coming up on Tuesday 25th and Thursday 27th August. These learning conferences are for your child to share their learning goals and progress. Booking details will be coming out soon. If you need to discuss anything extra with your child's teacher please book a separate time to do this.

Reading
As the children are preparing to lead their learning conferences throughout next week, they will be focussing on books they have had recently or plays. Our reading sessions will return to normal the following week.

Printmaking
We are creating some amazing print templates for printmaking. We will be sharing where we are up to in our process at learning conferences. Here is the planning taking place...

Gymnastics
Our final gymnastics session is in Week 6 (Monday 24th August). Thank you for ensuring your child is wearing the correct clothing.

Clothing
Please name all clothing clearly. Throughout each day we are returning clothing to children and this makes it a lot easier to find the owner.

Supplies
A huge thank you for the extra plastic bags, newspaper, pencils and glue sticks that have been coming in!

Spellathon
Please return spellathon cards to your child's teacher next Monday 17th August as testing will be happening on Friday 21st August. It is a good idea to note down your child's words so they can continue to practise throughout the week.
