Kia ora koutou

What excitement we are all feeling, looking forward to the new playground being built beside Pūkaki, one of our New Entrant hubs.  We have a working bee operating on Saturday and Sunday this weekend putting in some of the structural needs for the sandpit and fort.  Thank you so much to those who are supporting this, the first addition to the new outdoor play spaces that the PTA have been fundraising for. We feel very lucky to have such a progressive and energetic PTA who are enabling us to develop these very special spaces, around the school, for our tamariki.





Post reports, we would like to say thank you to the parents and grandparent who have sent emails and messages to teachers after receiving the latest school reports. This is always very much appreciated by the staff.  As a Senior Leadership Team, we recognise the hours that go into thinking through, drafting, editing, proofreading, checking and moderating these reports outside school hours.  We are very, very grateful to have such a dedicated and professional staff.

Thank you to all the families who were able to attend the learning conferences this week. We value having this time with whānau to share the wonderful learning that is happening with our tamariki.  We hope that you found them very beneficial.  We would appreciate any feedback from the night.

We congratulate and welcome Marcel Frei, Lisa Taylor and Carmel Wade to our Board of Trustees.  Our staff representative is Jules May.  Samson Karst, also a parent, has been appointed to our Board as our iwi representative from Ngai Tahu.  We all look forward to continuing this very positive and effective partnership that ensures the very best for our tamariki and whānau.

New Enrolments and plans for term three.

Dental Care during the School Holidays                                     

The Community Dental Service will be providing dental care for children enrolled with our service during the upcoming school holidays.  The clinics will offer treatment and relief of pain sessions by appointment only.   To make an appointment please contact our Call Centre which operates between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday throughout the year.

The following Dental Clinics will be open during these school holidays:

·        Northcote Clinic, 24 Tuckers Road, Casebrook

·        Hillmorton Clinic, Hillmorton Hospital, Sylvan Street,

·        Ashburton Clinic, 38 Elizabeth Street, Ashburton

·        Timaru Clinic, Level 1, 18 Woollcombe Street, Timaru

The clinics will offer appointments between 8.45am and 3.00pm for school-age and preschool children requiring treatment.
If your child has dental pain as a result of an accident please contact your dentist in the first instance.

Caring for our Environment

Do you eat store made bread? What do you do with those pesky little plastic bread tags?
We are collecting them at the front desk in the office. 'Bread tags for Wheelchairs' was started in South Africa in 2006 by Mary Honeybun.  It is a community program where individuals and organisations collect bread tags, which are sold to a South African moulding company, Zibo.  The bread tags are recycled and used in the manufacture of seedling trays and other items.  The money raised pays for wheelchairs for the less fortunate which are purchased through a local pharmacy. This is a really easy way, albeit quite small, of trying to reduce our production of 'new plastic'.
There is a container at the front desk for you to pop your bread tags in...let's see how quickly we can fill it!

Sports News

Weekly winter sport continues to be a highlight in our week. It is great to hear positive feedback from our coaches about growing skill and confidence. A huge thank you to our parent coaches for the time and expertise you give each week.

We are very lucky to have Anna Dawson, our liaison person for the Mana Ake Team, working within our Kura.  Anna is a trained Psychologist who has such positive energy around the work she and her team do at our Kura.

Mana Ake drop-in session for parents will be held in the upstairs room of the Office this coming Wednesday and then fortnightly from now on.  Please see below for information about Mana Ake.

Shortest Day Breakfast

Mark your calendars & make sure you come along for a hearty warm breakfast on Friday 21st June (the shortest day of the year). In conjunction with the Student Council, the PTA will open the Hall doors from 8am.
Enjoy a Free breakfast (Porridge or Weetbix), donate a can of food so that someone else can enjoy a free meal too. The Student Council will donate these cans to a local food bank. BYO Bowl - let’s look after our environment too.

A Weetbix breakfast will provide two weetbix. There will also be GF Weetbix

• you don't have to wear PJs to eat breakfast and, you don't have to eat breakfast to wear PJs
• this is not a mufti day so you either wear PJs or wear school uniform
• cans will be donated to a food bank (please bring food items)

CLUBBERCISE is coming to BECKENHAM.

The PTA are super excited to be co-hosting, with Clubbercise Christchurch NZ with Chloé, the following Clubbercise class: Clubbercise Christchurch with Chloé at Beckenham

Write Like an Author 

Write Like an Author is an internationally acclaimed writing course that teaches young writers the skills and techniques that professional authors use to create their stories.
During the camp, each participant will develop and write an original creative story under the guidance of a well-known, professionally published author.

The camp will be held at St Margaret's College during the school holidays, starting on Monday, July 8, 2019, and running until Thursday, July 11, 2019. The presenter is Maria Gill.
The camp is ideal for young people who have a dream of becoming a published author or anyone who wants to improve their writing skills.

The camp is non-residential and runs from 9am to 4pm each day.
The course fee is $195.00, which includes a discount for early registration.
The number of places on the camp is strictly limited.
