Term 4 Week 6 news

Kia ora e te whanau,

We have had a busy and exciting last few weeks of school in the Koru team!

Since our last blog we have been investigating, what we might want to be 'when we grow up'. Some of the careers we have looked at are: firefighters, astronauts, pilots, retail, police, engineers, and teachers.

We have been loving spending Friday mornings down in Treemendous!

Lots of fun water play!

Fun with Ferndale!

We have been coding the Beebots to move through mazes

The digging continues...

Making huts!

Making a home for Bounce and Skip.

Teamwork!

Practising our skipping!

Marae Trip

We were very fortunate to go to Rāpaki Marae this week, and want to say a BIG thank you to all the wonderful parents and grandparents who came along to help. We had a fantastic time exploring the marae, and learning about Rāpaki's connection to its whenua. The children were very excited about travelling on the double decker bus to Rāpaki, and they have hopefully shared some highlights with you at home.

Ready to leave in the morning!

We had a lot of fun on the double decker bus!

Athletics Update

As our athletics was postponed earlier in the term, we have arranged a new date to hold our junior school athletics. This will now be on the 9th December from 1:40pm-3:00pm. We will be doing this alongside the rest of the junior school (Y0-Y4) out in Beckenham Park. Parents, caregivers and supporters are all welcome to come and watch.

Sunscreen and Hat reminder

As the weather is getting warmer, please remember to sunblock your child/children before coming to school. We do have sunscreen that we can re-apply throughout the day. Also please make sure hats are coming to school everyday.

With only 3 and a half weeks of school left to go, the school year is quickly coming to an end. We hope you all have a wonderful week ahead!

Kahikatea Newsletter Term 4 Week 6

Kia ora koutou,

We have had a fun-filled fortnight of learning in the Kahikatea team.

Rāpaki Marae Trip

The sun shone for us last Wednesday, as we ventured off to Rāpaki Marae. We hopped on board the buses at the start of the day and traveled through the tunnel and around the bays to Rāpaki. We walked down a long, steep driveway, and were in awe of the beauty before us. We were greeted with a pōwhiri, followed by stories from Maui, who explained the history of the area and of the marae.

We had a fabulous time down at the beach, exploring and searching for items on our scavenger hunt.

A very special thank you to all of the parent helpers who came along to support us!

ESOL Group

This week the students had the opportunity to harvest produce from their garden to make a colourful vegetable salad to enjoy.

Billy the Magpie

This morning, we had the privilege of meeting Alex's new friend, Billy the Magpie. Billy had an injured leg, and Alex's family have been looking after her. She has decided that she quite likes it at Alex's house!

Kōwhai News Week 6 Term 4

 Kia ora whānau,

Today we had our second house games of the year, which the students were very excited about! We will also have house games next week on Friday as well.

We have a very full last 3 1/2 week of school coming up.

Noho Kura

We are getting very excited for our upcoming Noho Kura.

If you have not already filled in the form, please do so now. EVERY parent needs to have filled in this form whether their child is going to attend the kura or not.

As this is an overnight stay, we will be asking for a contribution of  $15.00 per child for the costs for the night.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to help during the evening and stay the night. We will have a limited number of parents who stay the night, and will let you know asap who these are. We will also send out a letter next week with jobs for the other parent helpers. Thank you again for your time!

Here are some details again of our Noho Kura:

Please collect your child after school, and bring them back to school at 5:30 p.m.

Children won’t need a change of clothes - when they get up on Saturday morning they can put their Friday clothes back on.

What to bring:

  • Pyjamas
  • Slippers or socks
  • Sleeping bag and/or duvet
  • Pillow
  • Teddy bear, cuddly or favourite soft toy
  • Facecloth, hairbrush/comb
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Something to sleep on (a small mattress/camping bed etc)
  • own drink bottle

If any parents would like to offer some baking for the students for supper time, please let your child’s homeroom teacher know.

We understand that many children have sports on Saturday morning - so if your child needs to be picked up earlier than 9am please let your homeroom teacher know. If you have already written this in the comments section of the form that is fine.

Rāpaki Marae Trip

Rowe, Tracey and Nick’s homegroups still require parent volunteers for the trip to Rāpaki Marae on the 30th November/1st December. If you have never been on a marae, this is a unique opportunity to experience and gain some insight into our bi-cultural heritage. Please contact the teachers directly if you are able to assist.

We hope you have a lovely weekend

Kauri Whānau Weekly Update: Term 4 Week 6

 In this post:

  • Bubble wrap needed
  • Top Team
  • Leavers' Graduation Assembly
  • 2021 leaders
  • BYOD

Bubble Wrap

We are in need of a supply of bubble wrap for felting projects. If you have a supply that you don't need at home, please send it to school tomorrow.

Top Team

Next Tuesday, November 24th, we have Sport Canterbury coming to school to run our annual Top Team competition. This is a fun-filled afternoon that focuses on our values of 'we get there together' and 'we love challenge'. Some of the activities involve water, so all children need to come prepared with:
  • swimming togs (best to come to school with these on under their uniform if possible)
  • a rash top, quick-dry t-shirt or thermal top (depending on the weather)
  • towel
  • bag for wet clothes
  • sunhat

Leavers' Graduation Assembly

Many thanks to the parents who have already responded to the graduation invitation. We have had a few questions about numbers. Due to the size of the hall, we have a limited capacity. Last year Koru and Kahiketea teams did not attend in order to free up more space. We will do this again this year. If your Year 8 has a younger sibling (Year 0-2) who would like to attend, you will need to collect them from their hub and they will sit with you for this assembly. Please let us know via email, or in the comments section on the RSVP if you would like to have more than 2 adults from your whānau at this graduation. If you have yet to reply to this invitation, please click here.

2021 Leaders

We have recently appointed House Captains, Deputy House Captains and Student Council Executive for 2021. Last week the House Captains and Council Exec attended the 'Be Inspired' leadership afternoon at Christ's College. They had a great time, learnt more about themselves as leaders and were inspired by a presentation from Sam Johnson.

BYOD
We have had a few issues with device supply lately because some children who have BYOD are not bringing them to school. Please remind your child to bring their charged device to school every day.

Kahikatea Waltham Park Picnic and Pool trip

 Kia ora e te whānau

Kahikatea End-of-Year Picnic and Swim

The Kahikatea children are booked in to have a picnic lunch at Waltham Park, followed by a swim at Waltham Pool on Thursday 10th December.  This fun day is to celebrate our fantastic year of learning.

The children are able to wear either their house t-shirt or school shirt for the day and will be required to wear suitable shoes for walking to and from Waltham Park/Pool.  They will also need suitable swimming costumes: either shorts or togs (no bikinis please).  Please send your child with their togs, towel in a bag, making sure all items are named.  We will be leaving school at 11:00am, arriving at the park at approximately 11:15am.  There will be a range of fun games and activities as well as the opportunity to play in the adventure playground.  We will eat lunch slightly earlier at 12:30pm and leave for Waltham Pool just before 1:00pm.   We will be leaving Waltham Pool at 2:30pm to arrive back at school before 3pm.

To enable this activity day to happen, we will need the assistance of at least 4- 5 adults for each homegroup.  If you would like to volunteer to do so, please complete the google form here or contact your child/children's homegroup teacher as soon as possible.

There is no additional charge for this trip as the cost is covered by your school donation. If you would like to discuss any aspect of this trip,  please contact your child’s homegroup teacher.
