Mana Ake “Drop-Ins” are continuing…

A number of whānau have already made great use of the Mana Ake “drop-ins” that are available on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 – 9:30am. These drop-in sessions are here to provide parents with an opportunity to have a private, informal conversation around the well being of their child with one of our Mana Ake workers (kaimahi). If you feel like you would like to attend a drop-in session, please book in a time via the link here: Mana Ake booking.  The code to use is 88t39. Alternatively, you can contact Jacky in the office and she will make a booking for you.

ShowQuest 2021 - Year 7 & 8

Last Monday our Year 7 & 8 students performed in ShowQuest. What a fabulous day had by all. A huge thanks to all of the parents who supported during the day, and the teachers who put a lot of time in to each performance over the last few weeks. Our Beckenham supporters in the audience on the night were also complimented on their enthusiasm and shoutouts! It was fabulous to see everyone come together and contribute to put on an amazing show.

Students participated by performing, doing sound and lighting - and we even had our wonderful Chef Luke whipping up some delicious treats to be shared with all of our incredible performers.

TODAY’S TRIP IS CANCELLED DUE TO THE WEATHER

 Kia ora whanau,

Today's trip to the museum and gardens is CANCELLED due to the weather. We had a call from the CCC to say the combination of showers/rain and the wind will make the event difficult to run.

This affects Amber and Charlottes home groups.

At this stage tomorrow we expect the trip for Lisa and Katies home groups to go ahead.

ShowQuest

What a fabulous day we had on Monday at ShowQuest. A huge thanks to all of the parents who supported us during the day. It was fabulous to see, and hear, so many Beckenham whānau in the audience. If you missed the show there are two videos available for viewing which Jenny has shared in the Kauri Google Classroom. Your child will be able to access these from home.  There are heaps of fabulous photos on Facebook that can be found by searching ShowQuest 2021.

If your child borrowed their costume for school, please send this back on Monday.

Quiz Night

We are looking forward to a fabulous quiz night this coming Saturday. Tickets are sold out.

We need every family in our team to donate an item for our hampers that will be raffled at the quiz. Thanks to the 15 families who have sent something to school already. We would love to see another 100 items come to school on Monday. Please grab something at the supermarket over the weekend and put it in your child's bag for Monday. Many thanks!

Sport

All the best to our zone cross country team who will be competing on Tuesday morning at Halswell Quarry. Winter sport gets underway in week 5, on Thursday June 3rd. A big thanks to all the parents who will be coaching teams. This programme cannot go ahead without you.

Koru Team – Week 3

Kia ora ki te whanau,

We have welcomed 7 new children into the Koru hub since week 1. A very warm welcome to the new children and their whanau. Our 'Golden Oldies' are enjoying making new friendships and showing our school values 'We get there together' and 'We care' to help our newbies get to know the routines and settle into the hub.

Last week all our children showed another one of our school values 'We love Challenge' when they competed in the school Cross Country. We were so proud of their efforts in running the course. They certainly displayed our school values.

All lined up at the start.

We were lucky to have lots of senior students supporting our runners.

Feeling happy to have finished our first cross country.

Rocketship numbers

Look at our amazing writing in our structured literacy group.

Working together with a buddy to solve maths problems.

We're going on a bear hunt

Reminders...
Please make sure that literacy folders are coming to school every day with the letters and heart words inside along with any books. It is important they are sent every day as teachers might need to update the letters and heart words throughout the week. For those children who are reading the decodable texts, these books are needed at group time every day.

Thank you to those parents who are waiting in the courtyard each afternoon for their children to come to them. This really does make a difference to the end of our day and easier for children to find their whanau.

For all our new families, and as a refresher as the children are bringing home new letters, here is the link to the video which demonstrates how to make the pure sound for each letter.

Heads up...
Please keep your eyes peeled for information about our exciting Art Gallery outing on Friday, June the 4th. We'll be seeking parent help for this outing, so look out for further details!

Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou,
Elizabeth, Jo, Stacey, Chelsea and Nicola
