Week 6 update

Congratulations to Jarred who received his teacher registration at a special ceremony on Monday. Jarred spoke on behalf of the registering teacher group, with meaningful words and lots of laughs. We were very proud.

Last Wednesday we were wowed by the awesome talent of our athletes at zone sports.

We will be exploring our poetic sides in writing over the next three weeks. This got underway on Monday, as we quickly wrote poems about chocolate bars and got others to guess the bar we were describing.

Layers of sand twisted through the golden sea
Decorated with brown bird wings.
A desert delicacy
A swirl of sweet
A glowing sun behind the dunes.

Ashleigh, Tate and Kimberly

A chiseled masterpiece
Smooth and elegant
A layer of crunch and
A topping of gold
A scrumptious snack
An essence of sweet
A log of taste
Strong and stumpy
A bite of heaven.

Gen and Abby

Sweet and sugary
Melts in your mouth
Chocolate coating
Filling from the beehive
Golden treasure treat.

Charlotte and Zoe

A priceless shiny sheet sharing a secret with you.
Beware the traces of nuts and wheat
To contain the swelling of your feet.
A fresh snack to lighten the breath
Although crunchy like a honeycombed bliss.
The colour of the starless sky
Foreboding with no reason why.
A name of a maker scrawled in delicate font,
Intertwining the secrets within.
A rich delight tainting the tip of your tongue,
A small little leaf turns into a smile.

Tim

Wonderful time at Wainui

What a blast we had at camp! The chilly weather didn't dampen the enthusiasm. The children faced a wide range of challenges and kept coming up smiling. The leadership on display and support the children gave each other was heartwarming. A huge thanks to our fabulous hard working camp parents. Also a big thanks to all the home bakers, your goodies were much appreciated.

Rugby World Cup Celebrations

A big congratulations to our Gold Leadership Award recipients! (Ashleigh too, she missed the photo).

What fun we have had learning about our Rugby World Cup countries and decorating our hub! Between interval and lunch today we made and sampled food from our countries, put the finishing touches on ourselves and our decorations, learnt more about our countries through a quiz and performed our show pieces. What talent and passion we have in Kauri Whānau!

Carisbrook Beckenham Sporting Exchange.

Today Carisbrook School from Dunedin visited for our annual Year 7 & 8 sporting exchange. We had a fabulous morning of competition, fun and spending time getting to know each other. We were so impressed with how welcoming and supportive our students were. In the basketball, when Beckham surged ahead, our children started up an enthusiastic chant to cheer on Carisbrook. A big thanks to the 6 Year 10 students from Cashmere High who refereed our games. The competition was close, with Beckenham excelling in basketball, Carisbrook in volleyball and in netball it was a very close game, with Carisbrook winning by 1 point. Having already won the trophy twice, it felt right that it headed down south with Carisbrook this afternoon. We are looking forward to the next time we meet in Dunedin, during our April 2016 camp.

Week 7 Happenings

We had a fun filled morning on Thursday when we invited the Year 6s in for a taste of life in the Intermediate Hub.

The speech finals on Thursday afternoon where highly entertaining and informative. Well done to the finalists who all did a superb job. A special congratulations to the place-getters: Kara, Daniel, William, Tim, Mitarina and Jasper.
