Kauri Whānau Weekly Update: Term 3, end of week 1

Many thanks to the students to helped to run our Open Night for Year 6 families on Thursday evening. The night was a great success and they definitely did us proud.  We have a busy and exciting term ahead. Below are some reminders for next week.

Tomorrow, Saturday July 25: Painting

A group of children have been working on our mural passion project, on the sports shed, over the past two terms. We are not quite done and tomorrow looks like a warmer day, just right for painting. I (Nicky) am going to be at school doing some paining on the shed between 11am and 1pm. If any of the mural group would like to join me, I would love to see them. They are welcome to bring a friend or family member.

Monday, July 27: Year 8 Whānau Meeting with Joe Eccleton, Principal of Cashmere High, at 6pm in the staffroom.

Good luck to our girls' basketball team who will be competing in the Canterbury Basketball Tournament on Monday.

Tuesday, July 28

All the best to the ShowQuest team who are going on location on Tuesday morning to film their dance video. Jenny has sent out information to the families of children involved.

Fundraising

Please mark Saturday, August 22nd in your diaries. We are having a Quiz Night, with a comedy twist, to raise more money for camp. Get a group of friends together and come along for a great night out. Liz, who is coordinating this event, will be in touch with the people who offered to help shortly.

Nicaela has been in contact with CottonSoft to arrange our toilet paper fundraiser. Order forms will be coming out next week. Everyone needs toilet paper! It would be great to see you collecting orders from family and friends.

Open Evening for Year 6 Families Tonight

We are looking forward to seeing you at our Open Evening in the Intermediate Hub tonight between 6 and 7pm.

When you arrive we will ask you to write down a question (children and adults). These questions will direct our sharing in the second part of the evening. Have a think about what you would like to ask.

Kauri Whānau: Term 3 Week 0

Kia ora everyone, we hope you have all had an enjoyable two weeks. It will be great to see everyone back at school on Tuesday. Remember that Monday is a staff only day.

Children

We have put this screencast together for the children to view, to give them a heads up on the changes we have made to our timetable for this coming term. Please ask your child to view this screencast and, if possible, go onto Kauri google classroom to make their Passion choices for term 3.

Parents / Caregivers

We would love to get your feedback. Please click this link and complete the short form.

Sport Update

A huge thanks to Robert, Brett, Anna, Karen and Juliette for coaching our winter sport teams. With these parent coaches, we will be able to continue our Thursday winter sport programme. Now we just need the weather to cooperate!

We are keen to enter teams in Koru Games, later this term, and need parent support to do this. Please indicate on this form if you can help. This is quite urgent as we need to get entries in and spaces in the competition are filling up fast.

86 people have now filled in the ski trip form. If you are one of the 14 remaining families, please click this link.  The date of this trip is August 28th (not October as was incorrectly written on the original form).

Remember that school starts on Tuesday. Be at school be 8:30 for the tech bus. Remember your bring BYODs. Enjoy the weekend!

Kauri Whānau Weekly Update: Term 2 Week 12

Week 12! It's been a long term and everyone is in need of a holiday. We are so impressed with how so many of our learners are maintaining focus and continuing to give of their best. Thank you for taking the time to meet with us during learning conferences. This is a great opportunity to share successes and next steps.

Ski Trip Form

Many thanks to the 35 families who have filled in our ski form. If you have yet to do this, please click this link and fill it in now. We need this information before going to the next step of our preparation.

Sport in Term 3

We would like to continue our winter sport programme on Thursday afternoons next term. In order for this to happen, we need a football and a hockey coach. Please email Jenny if you can help.

Over the past two years, we have taken part in Koru Games, a South Island sports tournament for Year 7 & 8s. This competition takes place in the Selwyn District from Sept 12 - 15. Before we decide which teams to enter, we thought we should start by seeing which sports you could support us with. Please click on this link to see what is involved and let us know if you can help.

Evening for Year 8 Whānau attending Cashmere High in 2021

Joe Eccleton, the principal of Cashmere High will be at school on Monday, July 27th, between 6 and 7pm, to talk with families and children planning to attend CHS in 2021. Please mark this date in your calendars.

ShowQuest - seeking a videographer and some sewers

For the past two terms, a group of Year 7 and 8 students have been conceptualising and choreographing an entry for ShowQuest. This is usually an on-stage performance but in response to Covid, the organisers have switched to an online video entry. We are wondering if there is anyone in our school community who has any experience or expertise that they could contribute to this project. We would like to hear from people with knowledge in filming, editing, or sewing. Please, get in touch with Jenny, if you think you could help. The plan is to film early in term 3.
