    Triathlon

If your child is keen for a physical challenge, the Canterbury Triathlon might be of interest. Click here for details and sign up.

    Science

On Thursday this coming week, we have a Science Roadshow from Canterbury University visiting us at school. Each class will get an hour-long session of science. Our timetable and break times will be altered that day.

    Wainui Wrap-up

No doubt your child came home on Friday full of stories from our fabulous week away. What a time we had! This camp was made all the more special by the amazing group of parent helpers who worked tirelessly for five days, creating nutritious and delicious meals and snacks, helping out at activities and supporting the children. We are currently gathering photos together and plan to create a camp photo-book that you can purchase as a memory of our week away. We have a collection of lost property and a number of chilly-bins to collect at school. Below is a small selection of camp pics.

Kauri Whānau: Final Wainui Camp Reminders

Only two more sleeps and we are off to Wainui! Below are our final key reminders.

Camp is nut free! Please make sure there are no nuts in any baking.

    Be at school at 8am:

    1. Gear on buses (Eastern Tce)
    2. Food donations and pre-prepared meals to the maker-space
    3. Hand medications in labelled zip-lock bags to home-group teachers. Children with inhalers keep these
    4. Go to homegroups with day-pack, ready to show teachers; raincoat, sunhat, sunscreen, lunch, water bottle

    Be prepared:

    • 2 sunhats if possible (a spare in case one goes missing)
    • Raincoat - rain is forecast on Thursday and activities outside will go ahead
    • Old lace-up shoes for water activities
    • A book and a small game
    • Plenty of thermal clothing
    • If sleeping bag is thin, bring an extra blanket
    • And everything else that is on the gear list!
    • Get plenty of sleep over the weekend
    • Our first activity is tramp to camp, so be dressed for this on Monday

    Don't bring:

    • Sweets, bags of chips etc - we have plenty of food and with such a full programme do not want mid-night feasts planned, as sleep is so important.
    • Any technology. Children can use our phones to call home if needed. If your child needs to bring a phone, then make sure you have communicated with their home-group teacher about this.

    Emergency contact:

If you need to get hold of us during the week, call Nicky on 0276229403

    Transport:

We have made some changes to the transport arrangements that we explained to the children on Friday. See below for the updated plan.

Kauri Whānau: after school safety message

Today after school a group of children from our hub were playing at the rope swing along the river. A man in a car approached the group, took a photo and started following them. Three of the children ran to school to let us know and also took a photo of the car's licence plate. This was exactly the right thing to do. Tracy then accompanied them some distance from school and sent them off in groups to go home. The incident has been reported to the police. This is a timely reminder that children need to go home and touch base with whānau straight after school so you know where they are and what they are doing.

Year 5-8 Swimming Sports: Change of time and final reminders

This message is only for whānau with children at swimming sports.

Swimming Start Time and Reminders for Tomorrow

There is a chance that we will be able to have access to the pool earlier than initially indicated. If we can use this time, we will. Therefore, please be advised that we may be able to access the pool from 12:30 and start very soon after.

If you are a parent help for this event please arrive at 12:30 if you are able.

    Reminders

    • Togs should be on under the children's school uniform.
    • Any children with personal medication such as inhalers should have these with them poolside.
    • Children need a towel, water bottle and enough lunch to have an afternoon snack on poolside, and underwear to change into after the event.
    • If you want to take your child home after the event, please sign them out with Jo.

Kauri Whānau Wainui Camp: Social Story

     Kia ora everyone,

Camp is now just around the corner. Today the children saw which activities they will be doing on camp. We have also shared the camp social story, which is below, with the children. It would be great to view this again at home. We are very close to being able to share bunkroom groups. All children should now have a paper copy of their gear list at home. Please email your child's homegroup teacher if you need help sourcing anything on the gearlist.
