Kauri Whānau Weekly Update: Term 1 Week 10

 In this post:

  • Rubix Cubes
  • Learning Conferences
  • Wainui Camp Book
  • Cheese rolls, done and dusted!

Rubix Cubes

This is one of those crazes that is highly appealing for a small number of our children and it is having an impact on focus during learning time. Children are to leave their cubes at home and not bring them to school. If your child is a 'cuber' please ensure they leave their cube(s) at home.

Learning Conferences

It is great to see the high number of bookings for learning conferences on Monday and Wednesday next week. A reminder that classes finish at 2pm on those afternoons. Kauri learning conferences run a little differently from the rest of the school.
  • Please come into the hub as soon as you arrive.
  • The children collect any books and a device to share their learning with you.
  • Settle down somewhere in the Pathway and your child will start sharing their learning with you.
  • There will be a list of what to share on the whiteboard to prompt them if needed.
  • Your child's literacy teacher and maths teacher will come and join you to share progress and next steps.
  • Your child's homegroup teacher will talk through a self-management reflection with you and your child.
  • You will be given a datasheet to take home. This sheet will have curriculum levels and next steps.
  • So that we can manage multiple teachers touching base with you, we ask that you allow 30 minutes for your conference.

Wainui Camp Photo Book

We have put together a photo book as a keepsake of our wonderful week spent at Wainui earlier this term. The book is a hardcover, A4-sized, 20-page book packed with photos and captions written by the children. The cost of the books is $30. If you would like to order a copy, please click here.

Cheese Rolls

A big thanks to the wonderful parent team who supported us with cheese roll making. Most of the children loved the experience of being part of the production line and they worked like trojans to achieve our goal of 735 dozen in one day. A Beckenham record! Any cheese rolls that are yet to be collected have been put in the freezer. Please come and collect these ASAP.  If you loaned us equipment, we will have it on the spotty table in the hub for you to collect early next week. We will let you know the profit once all the bills have been paid and the maths has been done.

More Cheese Rolls for Sale

What a mammoth day we had making cheese rolls today! Thanks to everyone who purchased some. If you missed picking up your order, it is in the fridge in the Hall kitchen.

We have surplus mixture, so will be making up another 30 or so dozen tomorrow, Friday. These will be on sale in front of the hall after school, $8 for a dozen and $30 for 4 dozen. Be in quick before we sell out.

Ice-cream container request

 Kia ora everyone.

We are on the hunt for as many ice-cream containers (or other plastic containers) as we can get our hands on for the Year 7 & 8 cheese roll production that is happening this week. If you have a stash at home that you are happy to donate, please leave them outside the school hall either today or tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

The less plastic we have to purchase, the better we can show we care for our environment. Thanks for helping us out!

Cheese roll onion choppers and ice-cream containers request.

We are two days out from our mammoth cheese roll production day. I have two final requests.

1. Volunteers to chop some onions on Wednesday evening and return these to school Thursday morning. Please click here if you can help.

2. Ice cream containers (or similar - suitable for packaging cheese rolls). If you have a stash at home that you are happy to donate, please leave these outside the hall foyer either today or on Wednesday, morning.

Many thanks!

Kauri Whānau Weekly Update: Term 1 Week 9

 In this post:

  • Cheese roll explosion!
  • Learning Conferences
  • House Games Thursday

Cheese Rolls

I have learned to be careful what to ask for! This time last week I was pushing for more cheese roll orders, so that we could have at least 300 dozen to make. When orders closed on Sunday, we reached 730 dozen! We would love to have another few parent helpers to work along-side our enthusiastic student team next Thursday. We are also in need of a couple of electric knives and some more jam-sized pots. We hope to get all the orders made on Thursday, but may need to keep going on Friday.  Please complete this form if you can help.

Learning Conferences

Thanks to those who have already booked learning conferences in the final week of term. If you have yet to do so please go onto the School Interviews website and use the code kk64k to book your learning conference. Remember to allow 30 minutes for your conference in Year 7 & 8.

House Games on Thursday

We are looking forward to seeing our Year 7 & 8s stepping up as leaders in the first House Games for the year this Thursday. Children are encouraged to wear their house top on Thursday.
