CSM – Christchurch School of Music
Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto has a close relationship with the Christchurch School of Music (CSM). Along with providing individual and small group lessons in a range of instruments, the partnership includes an Outreach Band programme that runs alongside the lessons. Every student learning a band instrument plays in a band, improving their skill at a faster rate and experiencing the fun and benefit of making music as part of an ensemble. As part of the band, students will specialise in one or more of the following instruments:
- Percussion
- Tuned Percussion (glockenspiel)
- Bass Guitar
- Saxophone
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Trumpet
- Trombone

CSM also offers lessons in violin, viola and cello through their Outreach Strings programme. To find out more about this programme, click here.
We also have itinerant teachers who offer individual/small group tuition for the following instruments:
- Guitar
- Ukelele

ŌCSM – Ōtautahi Contemporary School of Music
Beckenham Te Kura o Pūroto also has a partnership with Ōtautahi Contemporary School of Music.
ŌCSM offer flexible lessons and pathways designed to suit a wide range of ages, stages and goals, during 1-on-1 in school lessons. Whether your child is just beginning, building confidence, or ready for more focused musical development, there is a pathway to support them.
Students can currently enrol in:
- Guitar
- Piano/keyboard
- Singing/vocals
- Drums
- Ukulele
- Bass
- Songwriting and music production.

Lesson pathways include:
Introductory lessons
For younger students or beginners who are still exploring music and building confidence.
Development lessons
For students ready to grow their skills, develop stronger technique, and work towards more structured musical progress.
Specialised lessons
For students wanting more advanced support, including performance, songwriting, production, exam preparation, or instrument-specific development.
A $30 administration/resource fee applies per family, per term.
ŌCSM’s approach is modern, student-focused and designed to help young people enjoy music while building real skills over time.
