Principal's Update<\/h2>\n

Kia ora koutou<\/h3><\/div>
It has been a busy and remarkably successful term. Thank you to everyone who contributed - as I have mentioned before, our community is our greatest strength, and we are fortunate to work with each and every one of our students. We look forward to all that Term 4 brings, particularly the celebrations ahead.<\/div>

P\u014d Whakangahau<\/h3>
Last Thursday, our Kapa Haka group, led by Whaea Cath and Kate and supported by Paerau, performed at Cashmere High School as part of the P\u014d Whakangahau celebration. It was a fitting tribute to Te Reo M\u0101ori and Kapa Haka during Te Wiki o Te Reo M\u0101ori. Our students performed with distinction and their set was highly polished and truly stood out. Being part of this group allows our students to live our values and act as true Treaty partners. Well done to all involved, we were extremely proud of you!<\/div>

Celebrating Musical Growth <\/h3>
Last Friday, a special assembly was held to give students learning music through the CSM group an opportunity to perform in front of their peers and teachers. The wide range of musical genres showcased and the sheer talent of our students were something to behold. At our school, we value the arts, and providing these opportunities enriches our well-developed curriculum. We look forward to offering opportunities also for our OSCM music students to showcase their talents in the future.<\/div>

Shade Sails<\/h3>
You may have noticed that the new shade sails over the junior school playground were installed this week! Thank you to the PTA for successfully applying for grant funding and contributing community-raised funds to this important project. A big thank you also to Jo for choosing the color of the sails, we\u2019ve already received a lot of positive comments about them.<\/div>

As we bring Term 3 to a close, we would like to acknowledge all the wonderful staff who work behind the scenes in our school. Their support enables our teachers to deliver high-quality learning programmes to the students we have the privilege of having at our school.<\/div>

Amelia, you are an amazing role model learner in the K\u014dwhai hub, always giving your best effort and taking pride in your learning. You are also an incredibly reliable helper, readily willing to lend a hand and completing every job with care and responsibility. Your kind and caring nature shines through in the way you look out for others and make sure everyone feels included and valued. Thank you for all that you do, Amelia. Sebastian - Year 8<\/h3>
Seb, you are always willing to lend a helping hand and never complain, no matter what the job is. You have become our local ICT guru, always ready to step in and help teachers when technology isn\u2019t playing ball. You generously give up your lunch times to support others and make sure things get sorted. Sunhat and Drink Bottle - Term 4 Reminder<\/h3>
Reminder - as we near Term 4 and warmer weather, it is very important that every child attends school with a named sunhat and water bottle<\/b>. Sunhats are compulsory when outside during Terms 1 and 4<\/u>. Please remember to send your child to school each day with sunscreen<\/b> applied as well.<\/div>

Cellphones, Smartwatches, and other personal digital devices<\/h3>
Please avoid bringing personal devices to school where possible. If you have to bring them to school, please turn them off, drop them off at the school office, and collect them again at the end of the school day.<\/div>

Within the policy document, it states:<\/u><\/div>
Personal digital devices include cellphones, which we manage according to government regulations, and other devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartwatches. Devices that are part of a school-approved Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme have separate conditions for use.<\/div>

If students bring personal digital devices (including cellphones) to school, the following requirements apply:<\/div>
Students may be able to take devices on EOTC events, but should check with the teacher or person in charge whether the device is allowed before the event starts.<\/div>
Students must turn their devices off and keep them in the office during school hours.<\/div>
If devices are used for a learning activity, this must be approved and supervised by teaching staff.<\/div><\/div>

Happy Te Wiki o Te Reo M\u0101ori 2026 \u2014 M\u0101ori Language Week 2026!<\/h3>
Last week was Aotearoa\u2019s annual Te Wiki o Te Reo M\u0101ori! A range of different activities took place across our kura.<\/div>

Each day there was a different challenge, \u2018te wero o te r\u0101\u2019, for \u0101konga and kaimahi to have a go at. This has been a great way for students to try new things and grow their knowledge. Here is a link<\/b><\/a> to the slides if you would like to have a go at them as a wh\u0101nau!<\/div>

Last Tuesday evening, we had our Term 3 Wh\u0101nau Hui. This is an evening for our M\u0101ori wh\u0101nau, tamariki, and kaimahi to come together. We were lucky to have Mihi-Rose and her dad Ranui open our hui with a beautiful waiata. We shared kai, connected with each other, and had a go at learning a routine with t\u012b r\u0101kau, which was a lot of fun! We look forward to connecting with more wh\u0101nau at our Term 4 Wh\u0101nau Hui!<\/div>

Last Thursday, our senior Kapa Haka group, Te Wh\u0101nau Mahi Tahi, performed at P\u014d Whakangahau, which was held at Cashmere High School. This event brought schools from around the area together for an evening of performances. Te Wh\u0101nau Mahi Tahi represented Beckenham Te Kura o P\u016broto with pride and were absolutely incredible! They looked magnificent on stage and gave their all to the performance. We would like to thank our tutor, Whaea Cath, and all the students in Te Wh\u0101nau Mahi Tahi for the commitment and dedication they have shown in the lead-up to this performance!<\/div><\/div>

Dental Care during the School Holidays<\/h3>
The Community Dental Service<\/b> will be providing dental care for children enrolled with our service during the upcoming school holidays. The clinics will offer treatment and relief of pain sessions by appointment only. To make an appointment, please call\/email our Contact Centre, which operates between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday throughout the holidays (between 28 September and Friday 05 October). If your child requires urgent dental care during the time we are closed, please contact your family dentist.<\/div>
