We cover this programme every two years as part of our Health curriculum. <\/span><\/span><\/p> What will children and young people learn?<\/span><\/span><\/p> They will learn:<\/span><\/span><\/p> to work out when their safety is at risk<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> how to keep safe when they meet and mix with other people<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> who and how to ask for help if they, or someone they know, is being abused<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> to go on asking for help until someone does something to stop the abuse<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> that it is important to make and follow personal, family and school safety rules<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul> They will know:<\/span><\/span><\/p> that abuse is never okay<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> that abuse is never their fault<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul> What part do parents, caregivers and wh\u0101nau play?<\/span><\/span><\/p> Parents and wh\u0101nau are strongly encouraged to support Keeping Ourselves Safe.<\/span><\/span><\/p> You can:<\/span><\/span><\/p> find out about abuse and what to do if you think a child you know is being abused<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> talk to your child about what they have learnt in Keeping Ourselves Safe<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> set safety guidelines with your family<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> help young children with the Keeping Ourselves Safe activities they bring home<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> give the same safety messages as the school is giving<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> look at the wh\u0101nau section of NZ Police Keeping Ourselves Safe for more information <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li> frequently asked questions - <\/span>click here<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul> Keeping Ourselves Safe will be taught by your child\u2019s Home Group teacher, with support from<\/span><\/span><\/p> Constable Meg Moynihan, our local Police School Community Officer, as required. The teams both did an amazing at representing our school, playing well and showing amazing sportsmanship! Well done to all those involved! <\/span><\/p> <\/p>
