What an amazing end to Term 3 with the talent show! Beckenham has a lot of talent. Each team got to experience a variety of performances in their hubs, and from there 2 acts were chosen to represent each of the teams. <\/span><\/div>

SchooI Board Parent Mid-Term Election 2023<\/span><\/h3>

Board of Trustees Nominations<\/span><\/h3>
Our school will be undertaking a mid-term parent election for<\/span> 3 School Board vacancies.<\/div>
This process will start with the issuing of nomination papers to our caregiver community today, <\/div>
Friday 22nd September 2023.<\/div>

<\/div>

<\/div>
We have employed CES to undertake the election process on our behalf. This year with<\/div>
legislative change, our nomination form and full instruction on how to place your nomination<\/div>
into our own School\u2019s Election website will be emailed to you if we have your email address<\/div>
in our database, or you will receive it by post if we don\u2019t have your email in our database.<\/div>

Nomination papers will also be available at the school office. The school will send those on<\/div>
to CES for processing upon receipt from candidates.<\/div>

Nominations close on Wednesday 11 th October at 12 noon. Election day is Wednesday<\/span><\/div>
15th November 2023.<\/span><\/div>

Our school needs to have people on the Board who reflect the wonderfully diverse community that makes up our school population. This means that we need as many different world views sitting at our board table together, to enable us to have a deep and rich understanding of the needs of our tamariki and the best ways to support them to be successful.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/h2><\/div><\/blockquote>

Sunhat, drink bottle and sunscreen<\/h3><\/div>

A reminder that in Term 4 all children need to come to school each day with a school hat and their drink bottle, it is also recommended that children come to school with sunscreen applied. Please make sure the hat is named.<\/div>

Plogging for Keep New Zealand Beautiful<\/h3><\/div>
What great ploggers we had for our Keeping NZ Beautiful event!<\/div>
Some students turned up every day - that really shows We Care!<\/div>
Buckets and tongs were eagerly dished out and our ploggers set off to clean up the school grounds and Beckenham Park.<\/div>
Two large bags of rubbish later and with many house points being awarded there were some very happy ploggers!<\/div>

Koru Games<\/h3>
<\/a><\/div>

<\/div>
This week, 48 of our Year 7 and 8 students spent three days at Koru Games, a three-day sports tournament held in the Selwyn District. Our kura had teams entered into basketball, hockey, ki o rahi, touch and ultimate frisbee. Competing teams traveled from all over the South Island from as far afield as Wanaka and Dunedin. <\/div>

<\/div>
As you might imagine, the level of competition was pretty high and all of our teams came up against some pretty slick opposition. Our tamariki held their own, playing with heart, resilience and teamwork. They all deserve to feel very proud of the way they played and conducted themselves on and off the field. As a kura, we place huge importance on the way we play sport with regards to sportsmanship and values. These values were firmly on show in the way the children played sport throughout the tournament. They were humble in victory and gracious in defeat. <\/div>

A huge thank you goes to all our adult coaches. Our tamariki were in fantastic hands under the guidance of passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable coaches. We are so grateful for their time and support. <\/div><\/div><\/blockquote>

Hockey <\/b>- The children played as a cohesive team, showing great development in skill and confidence over the three days. The team showed great enthusiasm in all their games. They placed 2nd in their competition. <\/div>

<\/div>
Ki-o-Rahi <\/b>- The team were all fairly new to the sport, which is a traditional M\u0101ori game. None of them had previously played in a competitive environment outside of kura. The team showed incredible growth, implementing strategies that they observed in their opponents. The organisers presented our team with the Spirit of Ki-o-Rahi Award for the way they played the game with such positivity. <\/div>

<\/div>
Basketball <\/b>- The girls' team played every game with exceptional enthusiasm and positivity. The team were incredibly supportive of each other and developed their gameplay throughout the competition. The boys' team showed fantastic teamwork and focused play. They were coachable and resilient. They enjoyed many exciting games including some where they gained redemption against teams who they had played prior. <\/div>

Touch <\/b>- The touch team showed incredible progression and skill throughout the tournament. They came up against some extremely tough competition and they never stopped giving it their all. They showed great resilience, coachability and dedication.<\/div>

<\/div>
Ultimate Frisbee<\/b> - The wind added an additional challenge to the ultimate frisbee games, which the team took in their stride. Ultimate is a self reffed game, giving the children the responsibility of ensuring that the game is played in the right spirit. The tamariki worked together to make a strong team and worked strategically to finish in 5th place. <\/div>
