We wish you all a very safe holiday, and hope that you are all able to get some quality family time over the next two weeks.<\/div>

Considerations for home group placement for 2023<\/span><\/h3>
As we start to put together home groups for 2023, we know that you may hold particular information or insight that you want to share that will support the placement of your child for next year.<\/span><\/div>
Our teachers have a lot of understanding around the needs of our children, and we are keen to also know if there is something particular we should be aware of as we make these decisions.<\/span><\/div>
As you will appreciate, putting home groups together is a hugely complex puzzle where the needs of all children need to be carefully considered. This means that we are not asking for 'requests' for teachers or for friendship groups <\/b>as we would never be able to meet all of those. What we are wanting, is to be made aware of anything we need to consider. We will add your considerations to ours, and do the best we can to make sure that everyone's needs have been considered.<\/span><\/div>
If you have anything you want us to know, please email it to me (not to the teachers) so that I have all the information in the one place. We will need this information by the end of Week 2 next term - Friday 28th October.<\/span><\/div>

Junior Playground Rebuild - Work is finally beginning!<\/h3><\/div>
We have had this plan on our radar for up to three years and it is extremely exciting to be able to confirm that work is actually beginning on the replacement of our Junior Playground!<\/div>
The fencing went up this afternoon and demolition will begin on Monday. The new build is expected to begin in Week 2 of next term.

Sunhats and Drink Bottles<\/h3>
A reminder that Term 4 is a Sunsafe term. Time to find the sunhat!<\/div>

Please ensure that you send your child to school with a named red or black sunhat (bucket or wide-brimmed) and a named drink bottle from the start of Term 4.<\/div><\/div>

Headlice<\/h3>
We have had a number of cases of head lice reported in the school, especially in Koru (New Entrants). Please check your student's hair and head and treat them as necessary before sending them back to kura. 2023 Enrolment<\/span><\/h3>
For us to get an accurate picture of our staffing needs for next year, we do need to know about EVERY child who intends to start at school during 2023 as soon as possible, so that we can inform the Ministry of Education of our actual enrolment numbers for next year. To ensure we are given the staffing we need from the Ministry of Education for the year ahead, we need to have accurate pre-enrolment numbers.<\/div>

Alternatively, you can email office@beckenham.school.nz and request a form to be emailed out, or printed out and sent to you. We do need all 2023 enrolments in by the end of Week 2 next term, please.<\/div>

Congratulations to Christopher <\/b>for being awarded the inaugural Trailblazers Canterbury \"Spirit of Trailblazers\" Award. Christopher has shown great determination, commitment and support for others at Trailblazers, as well as having a great time and building his fitness too!<\/div>

Congratulations to Elijah<\/b>, Mitch<\/b>, Matthew <\/b>and Xavier <\/b>for being awarded a \"Keeping Christchurch Beautiful\" Award on behalf of the school. This was for the kaitiakitanga work that they have been doing, on top of the work that the P\u014dhutukawa Team have been doing for the past 3 years, down at the Beckenham Ponds.<\/div>

Sports News<\/h2><\/div>
We are looking forward to our Whole School Athletics Celebration on Wednesday the 26th of October.  Years 5 to 8 will be out on Beckenham Park competing in field and track rotations all day. Years 0 - 4 will start the day with their usual school routine and join us on the park for their run, jump, and throw rotations throughout the day. <\/div>

Athletics learning is a key part of our PE curriculum across all teams. The children are being taught safe and effective techniques as well as perseverance, resilience and sportsmanship. Our whole school athletics day is a celebration of this learning. <\/div>

Koru and Ferndale - 9:00 to 10:30 <\/div>
Kahikatea and K\u014dwhai - 11:00 to 12:30<\/div><\/div>

Our athletics day concludes with sprint finals, starting at 2:00. Our whole school will come together to cheer on the runners. The final event is a House Relay, which doubles up as an adults versus children race. With years 0 - 8 participating in this relay, we are going to need your support to make up an adult team. Bring your running shoes!<\/div>

Koru Games<\/h3>
Last week, a group of children from Kauri Hub participated in a three-day tournament, called Koru Games. Schools from as far away as Wanaka came together to compete in a wide range of sports. We have children representing our kura in touch rugby, hockey, ultimate frisbee and volleyball. <\/div>

<\/div>
The frisbee team finished in 2nd place, while the hockey team and one of the volleyball teams placed 5th. Across the three days, there were wins and losses and we were really impressed by how the children conducted themselves during the tournament. I heard numerous positive comments from people from other schools commending our children for their energy and enthusiasm during the games and for how they encouraged the opposition. <\/div>

Staff v Students Volleyball<\/h3>
This lunchtime the staff did a fantastic job of role modelling our school value 'We love challenge' as they took on the students in a volleyball game. The students played spectacularly and earned a very convincing win; they are the Canterbury champions and so an easy game was never on the cards. Thank you to all who took part, to Cian for refereeing the game, Harvey and Will for commentating, and to Billy and Zoe for organising.  <\/div><\/div>

NZ Kids Fishing Tournament<\/h3>
For the students who enjoy fishing, we invite you to enter our free tournament that runs from the 1st of October through to the 16th of October 2022. It is open to anyone under 16 throughout all of Aotearoa.<\/div>

NZSL interpreted performances at The Court Theatre<\/h3>
At The Court Theatre we want everyone to be able to enjoy the fun, drama and excitement of live theatre. To ensure that people with hearing difficulties can get a full dose of the upcoming laughs we have on offer, we are scheduling two special improv shows - one for adults and one for kids - in the next few weeks which will feature an NZSL interpreter for those with hearing difficulties<\/u>.<\/div>
