{"id":187,"date":"2015-05-23T22:44:31","date_gmt":"2015-05-23T22:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beckenham.school.nz\/wordpress\/?page_id=187"},"modified":"2023-12-14T13:45:44","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T01:45:44","slug":"cybersafety","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.beckenham.school.nz\/index.php\/information\/cybersafety","title":{"rendered":"Cyber Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Every student at Beckenham Te Kura o P\u016broto uses the internet to assist with their learning.\u00a0 It is therefore essential that students understand how to remain safe online and practise the principles of positive digital citizenship.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We aim to educate students on safe practices, responsibilities and how to manage unwanted content or attention so they can make effective decisions on their own.\u00a0 We do this through both specific targeted learning around different digital citizenship areas and through ongoing integration into day-to-day learning.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Digital citizenship covers a range of areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Safe searching<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Sharing of personal information<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Security of passwords<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Interacting with strangers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Appropriate use of devices and the internet<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Managing unwanted attention<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Maintaining a positive digital footprint<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We strongly believe that digital citizenship education is a shared responsibility between home and school so we ask that parents and caregivers support us in educating children around these areas.\u00a0 A great place to start for parents wanting more information is the<a href=\"http:\/\/elearning.tki.org.nz\/Professional-learning\/Digital-citizenship-modules#js-tabcontainer-1-tab-4\"> Ministry of Education Digital Citizenship at Home<\/a> section and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.netsafe.org.nz\/\">NetSafe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Cyber Safety Guidelines<\/h2>\n<p>The guidelines for students&#8217; use of digital technologies is summarised in the following poster.
