Learning Support is co-ordinated by the Deputy Principal\/Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO). The Learning Support team consists of our SENCO, SENCO support person, ESOL co-ordinator, our team leaders and our trained team of teaching assistants.<\/p>\n
At Beckenham Te Kura o P\u016broto we value having\u00a0an environment where all students are able to\u00a0succeed. Our staff\u00a0take special consideration to design learning programmes that incorporate the needs and abilities of all students, including those with learning needs.\u00a0Our planning is modelled on Universal Design for Learning<\/a>\u00a0(UDL) principles. UDL provides a blueprint for\u00a0designing\u00a0learning\u00a0goals, teaching methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone. It is a\u00a0flexible approach that can be customized for individual needs.<\/p>\n We use a wide variety of assessment tools to identify learning needs and plan appropriate programmes. Programmes can be individualised, small group or directed support within the Hub environment. Some of the learning support programmes are Early Words, Rainbow Reading, Steps for Literacy, Circle of Friends, social and emotional mentoring and Reading Recovery.<\/p>\n We work very closely with the Resource Teachers of Learning & Behaviour Service (RTLB), the Resource Teacher of Literacy (RTLit), Methodist Mission mentoring, health nurse, School Mental Health team and many services within Special Education (MOE).<\/p>\n We value the participation and partnership of our children, parents and outside agencies to support and create learning programmes that motivate and assist our children to achieve their potential and beyond.
