We cover this programme every two years as part of our Health curriculum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What will children and young people learn?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will learn:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to work out when their safety is at risk<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how to keep safe when they meet and mix with other people<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who and how to ask for help if they, or someone they know, is being abused<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to go on asking for help until someone does something to stop the abuse<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that it is important to make and follow personal, family and school safety rules<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They will know:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that abuse is never okay<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that abuse is never their fault<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><i>What part do parents, caregivers and wh\u0101nau play?<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents and wh\u0101nau are strongly encouraged to support Keeping Ourselves Safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">find out about abuse and what to do if you think a child you know is being abused<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">talk to your child about what they have learnt in Keeping Ourselves Safe<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set safety guidelines with your family<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">help young children with the Keeping Ourselves Safe activities they bring home<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">give the same safety messages as the school is giving<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">look at the wh\u0101nau section of NZ Police Keeping Ourselves Safe for more information and frequently asked questions &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.police.govt.nz\/advice\/personal-and-community-advice\/school-portal\/resources\/successful-relationships\/info-parents-whanau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">click here<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keeping Ourselves Safe will be taught by your child\u2019s Home Group teacher, with support from Constable Meg Moynihan, our local Police School Community Officer, as required. The lessons are age appropriate in content and delivery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be successful, Keeping Ourselves Safe needs your help and support. It is important that you participate as much as possible and talk to your child about what they have been learning.
